MENTAL HEALTH COALITION OF VERDE VALLEY  (MHCVV)

The Mental Health Coalition was formed as a result of a statewide conversation on mental health issues that took place in Sedona, AZ in September 2013. At the end of the evening, several residents and health professionals decided to come together as a steering committee to further discuss needs, resources and possible actions to address mental health issues in our local communities. The group has met monthly since September and now calls itself the Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley (MHCVV). The MHCVV is a non-profit organization that is entirely managed by volunteers.

The MHCVV is committed to developing a list of resources in the Verde Valley, researching model programs to help establish goals for our area particularly including mental health and criminal justice collaborations, organizing another community conversation in 2014 on Mental Health Issues, bringing together faith communities as resources to raise awareness in the community, developing a portfolio of stories to make the issues real to our communities, helping families caring for people with mental health issues, and helping to expand participation in the Mental Health First Aid programs that already exist.

The Coalition believes that the better informed our community is, the more we can help our neighbors obtain the services they require and speak with one voice to advocate for the needs of our local communities.

“Unlike all the other art forms, film is able to seize and render the passage of time, to stop it, almost to possess it in infinity. I’d say that film is the sculpting of time.”

– Andrei Tarkovsky

WorldPeaceProductions.org (WPP) is a volunteer based project that focuses on the use of film for education and community awareness.  WPP collaborates with local nonprofits and service providers to co-create Film screening events with experts, panelists, filmmakers and group discussion questions targeted on the social issues of the films.

Working in collaboration with local community nonprofits and schools, WPP is currently working in the Sedona area with the Mental Health Coalition of Verde Valley (MHCVV), http://www.mhcvv.org, during Mental Health Week.

WPP intends to continue to co-create such targeted community service events focused on involvement and actions that promote and encourage community interaction, education and support in the areas of nonviolence, mental health, wellness, youth, environment, poverty, hunger, Interfaith, cultural diversity and Women.

WPP believes that film and media are the best way to get the word out, and make a difference in any cause.  Therefore, it dedicates its resources to assisting viable nonprofits, filmmakers (especially women), community activists, and dedicated to making a difference in their community and the world.

It is the hope that Mental Health Awareness Week will provide information, assistance, and various forms of awareness and healing for all involved. Erasing stigma with compassion, and ignorance with supportive knowledge, we can become strong agents for Mental Health Awareness.
